Jeff Bartrem appointed by the Board to fill a vacant position with a term year term, 2006-2007.
Changes, effected in December 2006, to the by-laws of the WCLF allowed for the expansion of the Board. At the December 20, 2006 meeting, Fred Campbell, resident of Williamstown Township, was appointed as a member of the board to serve as a memer of the board.
Officers elected at the January 2006 annual meeting as provided by by-laws:
President – Susan Graff; Vice –President Dan Slider; Secretary – Ed Noonan; Treasurer – JoAnn Hegedus.
Dan Slider resigned as Vice President effective July 1, 2006. JoAnn Hegedus stepped down as Treasurer in February of 2006, Wendell Proudfoot was appointed to complete the 2006 term as Treasurer.
Early in 2006 the WCLF recognized the need to hold the title of the property at 226& 304 W Grand River being purchased by land contract. A mortgage for the remaining balance due on the land contract was sought and signed with Capitol National Bank for $210,000 on July 18, 2006.
A unanimous resolution of support of the Foundation and the library building site was passed by the City of Williamston in August and a similar resolution was passed by the Williamstown Township Board of Supervisors in November.
Several events were held by the Fund Raising Committee for the purposes of highlighting the goals of the WCLF, showcasing the building site, and soliciting funds for property payments and the building effort. Events included a dinner held on the site, a yard sale on the site, a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament and a Halloween Party. The events served to heighten local interest in the WCLF.
In December of 2006, the by-laws of the Foundation were reviewed and amended. A major revision was the expansion of the possible number of board members was expanded from a maximum of 7 to 15, and the process by which board members are appointed was revised. Board members will now be elected by the Board as opposed to being appointed by the local governmental units. This change helps emphasis the independent nature of this public foundation.
Most notably in 2006, much behind the scenes work took place putting the WCLF in a better position to launch a full fledged capital campaign. I would like to thank all the Board members and officers and volunteers who have given of their time.
I would especially like to note the contributions of Ed Noonan. Ed, as a founding member of the WCLF has been instrumental in laying the groundwork to build a new library for the Williamston Community. After many years of service, Ed will be stepping down in 2007 from the WCLF. It is only fitting that we thank Ed for all his hard work. Thank you Ed.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Graff
President
