Wendell Proudfoot was appointed to serve as Assistant Treasure and Web Administrator.
During the year 2007, WCLF made significant payments against the mortgage held on the property the will be the site for the new library for Williamston. The outstanding balance on the mortgage at end of year is $150,000.
Throughout the year, Directors sought advice and instruction from fund raising professionals as to how to move forward in a major fund raising campaign. Early in 2007 WCLF contracted with Jan Quiring of Quiring Associates to conduct a Feasibility Study to determine if there was adequate means and support within the Williamston Community to raise the funds needed to build a new library as envisioned by this group. The report was received in fall of 2007 giving the board the information needed to move ahead with goals and plans for major fund raising.
The major event of the year for WCLF was the Taste of the World Dinner held in June on the building site. It has been decided that this will be an annual event held during Williamston’s Jubilee week. Marlene Epley is tbe recognized for all her efforts on this and many other fund raising projects. Thank you to all the volunteers from WCLF, Friends of the Williamston Library and family who did so much to make this event a success. It was a fun evening of food, entertainment and fund raising with a major contribution from Capitol National Bank underwriting the cost of the food.
On October 18 2007 a tornado hit the Williamston area, tragically causing 2 deaths and some other injuries. Many homes in the area received severe damage, several were total loses. Property owned by WCLF suffered some damage when a large fir tree uprooted and fell against it. Thanks to Director Jeff Bartrem for working with renters, contractors and insurance agents to sort through the problems caused by the storm.
Thank you to all Directors, officers, donors and volunteers who have contributed their time, profession assistance good will and money to this very worth while effort. It takes many people to make good things happen for communities.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Graff
President
