Welcome to a Dream

Our Foundation is dedicated to building a library in Williamston that will be a focal point of education and entertainment for young people, a resource for senior citizens and area residents, and a beautiful gem anchoring the west downtown of the city. A volunteer organization, we have made much progress and overcome hurdles. Now we also need the dedication of the citizens of our community to make the dream a reality.

Eat Your Way to a New Library

  • Library Foundation Dinner a Success

On June 16, the Williamston Community Library Foundation held its 6th annual Taste of the World dinner on the library property on Grand River Avenue, next to the Riverhouse Inn. The theme this year was "A Taste of Greece," and was catered by the Soup Spoon Café in Lansing. A new twist for 2011 was a live auction conducted by Bob Howe, a long-time supporter of education in Williamston. Overall the dinner and auction activities garnered more than $10,000 to support the activities of the Library Foundation. A huge thank you to our donors.

The Site

We have purchased two beautiful parcels about two blocks west of Putnam on Grand River Avenue. The site is across the Red Cedar River from the Brookshire golf course, and contains many mature trees that will be preserved during construction.

Plans for the Library

To suit the beautiful setting, architects have created a masterpiece of useable space, an 11,000 sq. ft. building with low impact on the environment. The plans dovetail with the City's plan for extending a circuit of walkways that begins in downtown Williamston. This new space will accommodate all the holdings of the library and enable the library to bring in many resources from the Capital Area District Library. It will also enable the library staff to provide many more services to people or all ages, and contain meeting space for local groups.
